Asuu Threatens To Go On Strike If Their Needs Are Not Meet

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) through its Lagos Zone Coordinator, Prof. Olusoji Sowande at a news conference in Lagos on Tuesday, had threatened to embark on a nationwide strike in respect to its demands for the implementation of its 2009 agreement with theFederal Government. Olusoji said the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement, Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on funding of state universities, and a host of other agreement and promises were still being ignored and so therefore they will go on strike if these needs are not meet.

He said:

“The review of the agreement should have been undertaken in 2012 and 2015 but that did not happen. “The implication is that our union has shown enough patriotism  and understanding on these matters in the last four years.

“We are perplexed and disappointed that both the Federal and State Governments are not responding to our consistent appeals to bring about genuine transformation in the education sector, ‘’ he said.

He said they would rather not embark on a strike because it is the Students and ASUU members that end up suffering. Adding:

“It is unfortunate that the only language government appears to respect and listens to is that of industrial action like strike”.

How will you feel if you Never had to do Assignments Again? Swedish City Plan to Ban Homework

To most people, that will be a dream that can never come true… But moves are being made in a Swedish city to make that possible and bring to reality the ban on homework and assignments.

Reports have it that The Left Party in the city of Hallstahammar in Sweden says kids should be able to learn everything they need during the school day, and the city council has today launched an “investigation” into the idea.
The education council at Hallstahammar will look to see if “it’s possible for Hallstahammar to become the first homework-free municipality in Sweden.”

The country is generally open to new ideas in education, but its education minister is opposed to this one. “If this proposal is passed, I will take the initiative to change school laws so that cities will not be able to butt in and affect this kind of pedagogical decision,” Jan Björklund says.
